What Are C2PA and Content Credentials?
C2PA is an open standard for attaching verifiable provenance information to digital content. User-facing implementations can present this information as Content Credentials in products and platforms that support the ecosystem.
What problem does C2PA address?
A picture by itself does not always tell you where it came from or what happened before it reached you. C2PA provides a structure that can associate a file with information about its source, tool or recorded editing steps.
It is not a simple good-or-bad badge and it does not automatically mean an image was AI-generated. It is a provenance mechanism that can describe claims and history associated with the content.
Finding a C2PA signal is not full verification
A C2PA- or JUMBF-related structure inside a file is useful evidence that provenance data may be present, but that alone does not prove a complete chain is valid or trustworthy. Full verification involves manifests, signatures and relationships between claims.
MediaClean's current checker focuses on readable file signals and explicitly treats full cryptographic manifest validation as a separate layer.
C2PA and sharing privacy
Provenance information can be useful for establishing context, but you may not want every sharing copy to carry every attached field.
Decide what you need before cleaning: preserve the provenance-bearing original when it matters, and create a separate sharing copy if your goal is minimal file metadata.
