When does a photo contain your location?
If a camera app is allowed to save location, an image can store GPS coordinates in EXIF. Common searches include remove GPS from photo, remove location data from photo and delete geolocation from image. Sharing the original file can also share those coordinates with anyone who reads its metadata.
The tool checks for readable GPS and EXIF fields. Cleanup creates a new image without carrying ordinary metadata into the output.

Why is photo GPS metadata sensitive?
When location recording is enabled on a phone or camera, a photo may contain latitude and longitude in EXIF. Those coordinates are invisible in the picture itself but readable from the file.
Inspect the exact copy you plan to share, especially for home, work or private-location photos. Keep the original and create a separate sharing copy without ordinary location metadata.
Which location fields does cleanup target?
- GPSLatitude and GPSLongitude when present and readable.
- GPSAltitude and supporting GPS fields that add location context.
- Ordinary EXIF carried by the source image.
- Unnecessary software or metadata fields that are not copied into the output.
Limits of location cleanup
- It cannot erase location already stored by a service from a previous upload.
- It does not remove a place name or address visibly written into image pixels.
- The current scanner inspects the image file, not your phone's location history.
How do you know cleanup worked?
After the new copy is created, the tool scans again and shows the new size, format and remaining readable signals.
